Frederik Spiegelhalder

Patent Attorney
fspiegelhalder@merh-ip.com

Frederik Spiegelhalder is qualified as German patent attorney, and as representative before the European Patent Office (EPO) and before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

As patent attorney of MERH-IP his practice is focusing on drafting and prosecution of German and European patent applications in the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering. He also provides technical analysis in opposition proceedings and infringement matters. His particular expertise is in the field of computer implemented inventions and complex control systems.

He studied physics at Heidelberg University. For his diploma thesis at the Max-Planck-Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg, Frederik worked in a team setting up a reaction microscope which uses magneto-optically trapped lithium as a target. A reaction microscope allows to study quantum dynamics of ionization processes by simultaneous momentum-resolved detection of all target fragments including the recoil ion as well as the target electrons.

In 2010 he obtained a PhD in physics from the University of Innsbruck. For his PhD thesis he worked with a team at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The research was focused on studying mixtures of degenerate Fermi gases of lithium and potassium. He continued his research as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Amsterdam.

Before starting his education for qualifying as a patent attorney, Frederik gained engineering practice at Mapper Lithography, Delft, where he worked as an R&D engineer on fiber-optical channels for streaming data from a control system into an electron beam lithography machine.
